I've had jobs that paid well and jobs that didn't. Jobs that lasted and jobs that vanished. What I never had, for a long time, was something I could truly call my own.

I had a job driving trucks and, on the one hand, I was satisfied. For the longest time I had lived without stability. Now, finally, I had a stable income and a routine. And yet, as my girlfriend at the time pointed out, I was putting in a lot of hours for someone else's business. "Work for yourself," she said. "You could get your real estate license." She was a REALTOR® and knew exactly what she was talking about.

The idea stuck with me, but I was also afraid of failure, or worse: losing my stability. For a long time before the trucks, I had worked as an AC technician, replacing old units with new ones. Six months in, six months out, then nothing. Rinse and repeat. The uncertainty stressed me out.

That's when I got my commercial driver's license. I began working for Coca-Cola, driving their trucks, and eventually for a dairy company. I loved the stable paycheck; it brought me peace of mind. So when my girlfriend mentioned real estate, part of me was in, but another part didn't want to go back to an unpredictable income.

So I became an agent while I was still driving trucks. My mom was actually my first client! But I was a solo agent back then, and I quickly realized I needed mentorship, someone who could help me build a strategy and a system.

I joined the Laughton Team in 2019, the top team in the state, and everything changed. I felt at home and received exactly the mentorship I was looking for. I learned how to provide the highest level of service to clients and hold myself to that standard.

The past five years have brought a lot of growth and, honestly, a lot of hard lessons. I learned that real estate can be volatile and that you need to approach investments without letting emotions drive the decisions. In 2020, I bought a second home with a short-term loan, assuming the value would go up. It didn't. It was deeply stressful and gave me firsthand experience with what it really means to invest. I learned to make decisions based on assumptions.

I also went through a divorce, which, although difficult, turned out to be a significant source of personal growth. I went through a dark period, feeling quite down. Eventually, I joined a martial arts studio as a way to release pent-up energy, and something shifted. I got comfortable with discomfort. I realized that growth never really ends. I think I'm more grounded now than I've ever been.

Martial arts and the gym have been huge for keeping me level. In my free time, I like playing video games with friends and watching UFC fights. I recently adopted a foster dog, he came to me a little chaotic and completely irresistible and training him has been a genuine joy.

Real estate gave me what I was always looking for: the ability to build something of my own, without sacrificing the sense of purpose that comes from working hard. It just took me a little while, and a few hard lessons, to get here.
